Cleaning a lotion pump is actually quite simple. With the right method, you can easily remove residual product, ensuring cleanliness and preventing clogging for future use.

First, unscrew the pump head from the bottle. Over a sink or waste paper, repeatedly press the pump head several times to squeeze out as much of the remaining lotion from the tube and pump mechanism as possible.
Prepare a basin of warm water (do not use boiling water, as this may deform the plastic). Submerge the entire lotion pump in the water, pressing the pump repeatedly while it's submerged. You will see white lotion dispersing from the tube like a small cloud. Continue pressing until only clear water is being dispensed.
If the contents are particularly oily or have dried and hardened, add a small amount of dish soap to the warm water. Insert the tube into the soapy water and press repeatedly again. The soapy water will effectively break down the oily residue.
This step is crucial! Change to a basin of clean, cold water and repeatedly press the pump head while it's submerged. Press many times until all the soapy water is completely flushed out, ensuring that the water dispensed is free of bubbles and any residual scent.
Dry the outside of the pump head with a clean towel. Then, place the pump head in a well-ventilated area to dry completely. It's best to press the pump a few times to remove any remaining water from inside the pump mechanism, preventing bacterial growth.
