Do I need to consider the viscosity of the liquid when choosing a plastic pump head?

Industry News-

When choosing a plastic pump head, it is necessary to consider the viscosity of the liquid, as viscosity directly affects the discharge efficiency, smoothness of use, and structural requirements of the pump head. The following is an introduction from different perspectives:

1、 Viscosity determines the type of pump head
Low viscosity liquid (such as alcohol, spray water, perfume)
→ It is recommended to use a spray pump head, with smooth liquid discharge and good atomization effect, which is suitable for thin liquid with strong fluidity.
Medium viscosity liquid (such as hand sanitizer, lotion, shampoo)
→ It is suitable for lotion pump head (press pump), with large pump chamber, coarse channel and strong pressure.
High viscosity liquids (such as honey, concentrated skincare creams, and gelatinous substances)
→ It is necessary to increase the channel or strengthen the structure of the pump head, otherwise it is easy to block or unable to pump smoothly.

2、 Viscosity affects the smoothness of liquid discharge
When the viscosity is too high, if the pump head structure is not optimized, the following problems may occur:
Slow liquid output or inability to spray
Pressing is laborious or unable to rebound
Shortened lifespan of pump head
Reasonable matching of viscosity grade pump head design can maintain uniform liquid output, easy operation, and long service life.

3、 Viscosity affects the internal design of the pump head
Straw diameter and length: The higher the viscosity, the thicker the straw needs to be to reduce resistance; At the same time, it should not be too long to avoid difficulty in rising the liquid.
Spring rebound force and valve design: For medium to high viscosity liquids, it is necessary to configure stronger springs and optimize the sealing valve structure to avoid backflow or leakage.

4、 Viscosity affects user experience and efficiency
In high-frequency usage scenarios such as shampoo bottles and commercial disinfectants, if the viscosity does not match the pump head, it can lead to low efficiency and user dissatisfaction;
In portable products, it is necessary to strike a balance between portability and viscosity adaptability, and choose a pump head that is lightweight but structurally sound.

5、 The consequences of viscosity mismatch
Difficulty pressing or lagging
Uneven or dripping liquid output
Damaged pump head and shortened lifespan
Decreased user experience may affect product evaluation
